Baby shower events may take some time to organize. But they are certainly worth the trouble because a well organized baby shower will provide opportunities for a gathering, and of course, lots of fun and entertainment. The key to making a baby shower event successful is in the planning.

Start by sending out invitations early. You can use many different ways to do this. You can send cards, send SMS, or even send email invitations if you like. The goal is to have as many guests RSVP as possible so that you can start planning for the food and games.

Games are a big part of baby shower events. You have a whole list of guests attending the event, and you want to be sure that the guests are kept entertained. Here are some ideas for baby shower games.

Tummy Girth Game

This is a rather simple game. You want games that are easy to learn and understand so that you won’t run into trouble having to explain the rules to the guests. What you do in this game, is to pass some string or ribbons around. Each guest will then try to guess the measurements of the pregnant lady’s girth and cut the string or ribbon accordingly. Each piece of string is then used to wrap round the pregnant lady’s girth, and the string that is the most accurate wins.

Pin the Pacifier on the Baby

This game is similar to the game "Pin the Donkey". But in this case, you don’t pin anyone’s rear end – you pin the pacifier on the baby, on the mouth.

Dress the Baby

If you really want to get the guests fired up, here is a competitive game. Each guest is given a doll. The doll is the baby. They are then added a set of dressing items such as diapers, T-shirts, etc. When the timer starts, guests will start dressing up the baby. The guest who dresses the baby most quickly wins the game. As this is a competitive game, it can be a lot of fun. Guests may get rather rowdy though.

Guess the Baby Product Shower Game

When everyone gets tired, you may want to try this game to get everyone to cool down. The only person involved in this game is the pregnant mum. Have the pregnant lady sit in a chair blindfolded. A bag, with numerous baby items, will be put in front of the lady. The lady is then supposed to take one item out at a time, and make a guess. Surely, there will be lots of opportunities for laughter. You may want to make this game more fun by adding unusual baby products.

The Bottle Race

This is a very fun game, and an excellent ice breaker. Baby bottles are filled up with juice or milk. Everyone then sucks a bottle and the guest who finishes all the fluids in the baby bottle wins the game. Prepare your camera to take lots of fun pictures of your guests sucking on baby bottles!

It is unusual to have a baby shower and poetry reading in one, but it is an idea that can work among a very strong lyrical society. Since Verses and Rhymes is a good theme for a baby shower, why not include a line on the cake? Express how your future newborn is as sweet as the cake, or how much everyone is lovingly waiting for the baby. Mom-to-be does the honor of articulating the cake inscription before cutting it.

Baby Shower Favors

A fundamental part of any baby shower is the party favors, both as prizes and memorabilia. This is a wonderful opportunity to incorporate poems!

For winning games, contests or solving riddles, prizes can be awarded together with a poem about how remarkable the win was. The poetic party host can pronounce, in verses, how amazing the game was played and how miraculous winner won. Lastly, prize recipients can give their own "thank you" verse or two.

As the guests leave, give them an inexpensive memento of the occasion, and as in the whole baby shower theme, include a poem about how it was made special because of the guest’s presence.

Poems indeed, add more life to such a warmhearted occasion about giving life: the baby shower.
